How to Complain

If your complaint is about a judge or coroner you can submit your complaint directly to the OJC.  This can be done online using the interactive form on this site or the complaints form can be downloaded and sent to us by fax, post or email.  You do not have to use the suggested form, a letter or email is also acceptable. When submitting a complaint you should include:

If your complaint is about a magistrate or tribunal member please see later sections about how to send complaints direct to Tribunal Presidents or Advisory Committees. Complaints about Deputy Coroners and Assistant Deputy Coroners should be sent to the Coroner.

Complaints should be made as soon as possible. Any complaint submitted more than 12 months after the incident may be dismissed without consideration unless there is a good reason for the delay.

If there is any danger that investigating a complaint might affect the outcome of an ongoing court case, consideration of the complaint may have to be put off (deferred) until the end of the case.

The Judicial Discipline (Prescribed Procedures) Regulations and other relevant rules and guidance can be found under 'Publications and Regulations'
